Keeping in view the dismal picture about its future created by the Bihar elections, the BJP is now thinking hard on the issue of projecting a clear face of a chief ministerial candidate for the 2017 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.
The BJP is bent on winning the UP assembly elections, as it knows that losing this state after the pounding it received in Delhi and Bihar could signal a complete loss of faith towards the BJP among the voters. UP being the electoral state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who contested and won from Varanasi, a loss of this state will be a blow that the BJP cannot afford at this time.
While the BSP, SP and Congress have already projected names of their possible chief ministerial candidates, the BJP is yet to take a decision, although the focus at present is concentrated on fielding Varun Gandhi against Akhilesh Yadav and Rahul Gandhi.
Behind this idea is the thought that like almost all states, young generation forms the majority of the vote-bank in Uttar Pradesh and it was this young generation that elected Akhilesh Yadav with an overwhelming majority in the state. But, with the current law and order situation in UP, the youth has become disillusioned with Akhilesh and at this point, a dynamic and fire-brand young leader like Varun Gandhi could be a viable alternative.
However, this idea is still in its nascent stage and till now, there are been no official discussion in this direction, with senior party leaders believing that the time for projecting a chief ministerial candidate has not yet arrived.
Talking to India Today in this context, Agra Congress secretary Mohd. Sharif said that the people of Uttar Pradesh are fed up with Akhilesh Yadav and his governance which is revolving around the Yadav community. All key posts in districts and division headquarters are given to Yadavs and the family has distributed all major ministerial portfolios between themselves.
Similarly, the BJP has deceived the people of the country through Narendra Modi who promised “Acche Din” but instead brought India down on its knees through an economic and industrial crisis. The businessmen are worried about their future under Narendra Modi and the only shining light in this dark tunnel in Rahul Gandhi, who is the first preference of the young generation of UP, due to his anti-communalism and anti-casteism stand.
He said that Varun Gandhi is known as a very communal-minded politician and if the BJP projects Varun as its next CM in UP, then it will surely lose these elections.
